Chairman of the Punjab Chief Minister’s Task Force on Prisons, Rana Manan Khan, recently visited Attock District Jail to review its facilities and conditions.
During his visit, he inspected the hospital, women’s barracks, kitchen, watchtower, general barracks, and other sections of the jail. The Attock Jail Superintendent briefed him on the operations, and Rana Manan Khan interacted with inmates to assess their needs.

He highlighted the commitment of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif to improving inmate welfare across the province. He stated that under her leadership, efforts were being made to rehabilitate prisoners into productive members of society, contributing to Pakistan’s progress.
Rana Manan Khan noted that the visit was part of broader prison reforms. He revealed that 1,800 PTI workers currently incarcerated at Attock Jail were being provided all necessary facilities in accordance with the jail manual.
The chairman reiterated the government’s dedication to ending the politics of hatred and emphasized Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif’s focus on public welfare initiatives. He encouraged the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government to learn from Punjab’s progressive reforms for the betterment of their own province.
He also assured that significant efforts were underway to eliminate issues such as drugs, bribery, and other malpractices in Punjab’s prisons, with a strong focus on education and rehabilitation for inmates.
Furthermore, steps were being taken to promote jail-based industries and facilitate the transfer of prisoners to their respective district jails. Rana Manan Khan concluded by emphasizing the importance of moving forward with initiatives that bring progress and positivity for the country’s development.
