In Qatar, a court has sentenced eight former Indian Navy personnel to death on charges of espionage. Among the convicts is Commander (retired) Purnendu Tiwari, a decorated officer who had commanded significant Indian warships.
All eight individuals, accused of spying for Israel, had been employed by Al Dahra Global Technologies and Consultancy Services, a private company that offered training and related services to Qatar’s armed forces and security agencies. They were detained by Qatari authorities for over a year, during which their numerous bail requests were rejected.

India’s Ministry of External Affairs has confirmed the conviction of these former navy officials. The ministry expressed shock at the death penalty verdict and stated that it is awaiting the detailed judgment. They pledged to provide consular and legal assistance and said they would raise the matter with Qatari authorities.
