Rain, Snow & Fog: PDMA Winter Weather Alert for Punjab From Dec 20

Lahore — The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued a detailed winter weather advisory forecasting rain and snowfall in Murree and various parts of Punjab starting December 20, as a western weather system enters the region, officials confirmed Thursday. The alert comes ahead of a cold spell that is expected to impact key cities and hill stations across Punjab and the northern highlands.

According to the PDMA, hilly and high-altitude areas, including Murree, Rawalpindi, Galiyat, Potohar region, Bhurban, and the Galliyat are likely to see rain mixed with snowfall between December 20 and 22, potentially causing slippery roads and possible temporary road closures.

The authority also listed a broad range of plain cities expected to receive rain or drizzle on December 20 and 21. These include Lahore, Sargodha, Khushab, Faisalabad, Hafizabad, Gujranwala, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujrat, Sialkot, Narowal, Sheikhupura, Multan, Jhang, Dera Ghazi Khan and Toba Tek Singh. Cloudy skies with light showers could help ease persistent smog conditions in central and northern Punjab.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) also warned of dense fog and reduced visibility, particularly in the early mornings and evenings in the plains, urging motorists to use fog lights and avoid unnecessary travel on motorways and hilly roads.

Tourist authorities and local administrations have already begun issuing travel advisories, reminding visitors heading to Murree and hill resorts to prepare for winter conditions, carry necessary warm gear, and follow safety guidelines. PDMA officials have urged residents and travelers to stay informed, monitor real‑time winter weather updates, and coordinate closely with local emergency services as the rain and snowfall forecast from December 20 takes effect.
