The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued a weather alert across Punjab, including Lahore, warning residents about strong winds, thunderstorms, rain, and possible hailstorms in several districts over the coming days.
According to a spokesperson for the PDMA, a new weather system has entered the region and is expected to bring widespread rainfall to most parts of the province starting today. The forecast indicates that the spell of unstable weather is likely to continue until June 20, raising concerns over possible disruptions and localized emergencies.
Director General PDMA, Irfan Ali Kathia, said that advance alerts have already been sent to all commissioners and deputy commissioners across Punjab. He added that district administrations have been directed to remain vigilant and ensure that preventive and emergency response measures are in place before the weather conditions intensify.
The districts expected to be most affected include Lahore, Toba Tek Singh, Pakpattan, Nankana Sahib, Chiniot, and nearby areas. These regions may experience moderate to heavy rainfall accompanied by gusty winds, thunderstorms, and isolated hailstorms, which could impact traffic flow, electricity supply, and agricultural activities.
The PDMA has advised citizens to avoid staying in open areas during lightning and thunderstorms and to seek shelter in secure locations. People have also been urged to avoid unnecessary travel during periods of strong winds and dust storms, as reduced visibility and hazardous road conditions could increase the risk of accidents.
Farmers have been encouraged to take precautionary steps to protect standing crops and farming equipment from potential weather-related damage. Meanwhile, tourists planning trips to northern regions have been advised to stay updated on weather forecasts and follow official safety instructions. Authorities said all relevant departments remain on high alert to respond quickly to any emergency situation and ensure public safety throughout the expected weather spell.
