Punjab University Student Killed in Shooting Incident 'On Campus'

A tragic shooting incident occurred at Punjab University, resulting in the death of a student, Rana Ammar Akhter, a 22-year-old from Kasur, who was a student of Gender Studies. Following the incident, students staged a sit-in outside the university, which led to severe traffic congestion on Canal Road, Barkat Market, and surrounding areas.

The student organization involved in the protest also reportedly attacked the university’s administration block, causing damage by ransacking flower pots and doors.

The victim, who sustained gunshot wounds to the chest, stomach, and leg, was initially taken to Sheikh Zayed Hospital. Despite doctors’ efforts to save him, he succumbed to his injuries in the operation theatre.

The spokesperson for Punjab University denied that the incident occurred within the university’s premises, alleging that the student organization was spreading false information. Meanwhile, Sheikh Zayed Hospital confirmed the victim’s death and stated that his body had been handed over to the police for postmortem examination.

The situation remained tense at the university, with protests continuing as students demanded justice for their slain peer.
