Punjab University Hikes Fees by as Much as 59%

Punjab University has announced a significant increase in tuition fees for several academic programs. The new fee structure is set to take effect this month.

According to officials, the decision was approved by the university’s syndicate. The hike impacts both undergraduate and postgraduate courses.

The largest increase is seen in the LLM program, where fees have gone up by Rs 7,825. This marks a 59% rise compared to last year. The LLB program has also seen a substantial increase, with fees rising by 28%.

Students enrolled in D Pharmacy will now pay Rs 23,000, up from the previous Rs 18,000. This reflects a 28% jump. Meanwhile, medical diploma programs have seen a 16% fee hike.

Undergraduate degrees like BSc, BCom, and BBA, as well as the postgraduate MBA program, have all experienced a 15% rise in fees.

Punjab University stated that the changes were necessary to meet growing operational and academic costs. The administration added that the decision aligns with trends across other public universities in the country.

Currently, the overall fee increase across major public universities in Pakistan stands at an average of 28%. Punjab University’s latest adjustments reflect this broader shift in higher education funding.

The fee hike has raised concerns among students and parents, especially those from middle- and lower-income backgrounds. Many fear the rising cost of education may limit access for deserving students.

Punjab University has not yet announced any specific relief measures or scholarships to offset the impact of the increase. However, the administration has indicated it may review support options in the near future.

As one of the oldest and largest institutions in the country, Punjab University continues to play a key role in Pakistan’s higher education system. The new fee structure is part of its ongoing efforts to balance academic quality with financial sustainability.
