Punjab Moves to Regulate Private Academies and Coaching Institutes

Academies across Punjab are set to come under regulation as the provincial assembly moves to monitor private academies, coaching centers, and tuition institutes.

The Punjab Private Educational Institutions Promotion and Regulation (Amendment) Bill, tabled by PML-N legislator Amjad Ali Javed, points to the sharp rise of academies and similar institutes over the last decade. Lawmakers acknowledged that while academies have played a key role in helping students prepare for exams, their unchecked growth has created serious concerns.

To address this, legislators emphasized the need for a legal framework to standardize practices, ensure transparency, and safeguard student interests. The bill has been referred to a committee, which will present its findings within two months before the assembly reviews it again.

The final decision now rests with Punjab Governor Sardar Saleem Haider, who will determine whether the proposed regulations on academies are formally enacted
