The Punjab government has introduced new Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for the use of Public Call Office (PCO) facilities by prisoners, ensuring controlled communication with their families and legal representatives.
Under the new SOPs, prisoners will be allowed to make calls from Monday to Saturday, between 8 AM and 5 PM. Calls can only be made to immediate family members, spouses, and legal counsel.

Each prisoner will be allotted a maximum of 80 minutes of call time per week. Special provisions have been made for women, juvenile, and death-row inmates, with dedicated PCO booths installed within their respective barracks.
This initiative is aimed at providing a regulated and secure way for prisoners to maintain essential communication, while adhering to security protocols.
