Punjab to Recheck 25% Exam Papers Under New Policy

The School Education Department of Punjab has introduced new guidelines to improve the transparency of the annual examination system. The department aims to make the exam process more reliable and fair for students across the province.

According to officials, the new standard operating procedures focus on strict monitoring of the paper marking process. Authorities want to ensure that exam results remain accurate and free from manipulation.

Under the new policy, about 25 percent of schools in Punjab will have their exam papers selected for separate validation. This review will take place under the School-Based Assessment system. The purpose is to check whether the marking has been done correctly and fairly.

Officials said this step will help prevent inflated scores or incorrect marking. It will also help authorities confirm the credibility of the results issued by schools.

School heads have also received clear instructions from the department. They must maintain complete records related to the examination and assessment process. Proper documentation will allow authorities to review and verify the work when needed.

The department warned that strict action will be taken against institutions involved in incorrect marking or manipulation of results. However, schools that follow the rules and present genuine results will receive encouragement and recognition.

Authorities also stressed the importance of confidentiality during examinations. Schools in Punjab, including government and outsourced institutions, must ensure transparency and security throughout the exam process.

In addition, the marking standard for Grade 8 examination papers will undergo an independent review. The Punjab Examination Commission will carry out this review to ensure consistent grading standards.

To further strengthen the system, biometric attendance has been introduced at sensitive examination centers. This step helps confirm the identity of candidates and reduces the chances of cheating or impersonation.

Officials said more than 6,000 students have already completed biometric verification. The process is expected to expand as examinations continue across Punjab.

The department is also using CCTV cameras and online monitoring systems during matriculation exams. These technologies will help authorities supervise examination centers in real time.
