In a significant move to boost grassroots healthcare, the Punjab government has announced over 19,000 new jobs under the Maryam Nawaz Community Health Services Program to improve public health services across the province.
According to official sources, 19,543 Community Health Inspectors (CHIs) will be hired on daily wage contracts through private sector outsourcing. Backed by a substantial Rs. 16.5 billion allocation, the initiative marks one of the largest expansions of the public health workforce in Punjab’s history.

The bidding process for selecting private firms to manage recruitment concluded on Tuesday. The chosen firm will oversee the full hiring cycle, including onboarding, performance monitoring, and terminations, with payments made directly by the government.
Lahore will receive the largest portion of the program, with 3,783 CHIs to be recruited at an estimated cost of Rs. 3.5 billion. These new hires aim to address staffing shortages left unfilled by the long-standing Lady Health Worker program.
