Punjab Government Initiates Project For Preserving Forests

The Punjab Government took a significant step towards environmental conservation and wildlife preservation on Sunday by initiating the country’s first major project in this domain.

A crucial meeting, chaired by Senior Minister of Punjab Marriyum Aurangzeb, was convened in Lahore to deliberate on key aspects of the groundbreaking initiative. One of the major decisions taken during the meeting was the approval of the first-ever zoological survey in Punjab. This survey aims to gather comprehensive data on various species inhabiting the region, providing valuable insights into the local wildlife.

In addition to the zoological survey, the meeting also greenlit the establishment of Punjab’s inaugural digital wildlife archives. This pioneering initiative is geared towards creating a repository of information that can serve as a valuable resource for wildlife researchers, conservationists, and policymakers.

To further bolster wildlife protection efforts, the meeting approved the formation of Punjab’s first Wildlife Protection Force. This specialized force is expected to play a crucial role in safeguarding the diverse flora and fauna of the region, emphasizing the government’s commitment to environmental stewardship. In a bid to enhance the fishery sector, the authorities issued directives to establish the first international fish market in Lahore. This move not only aims to boost the local economy but also signifies a commitment to sustainable practices in the fisheries industry.

In a related development, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz inaugurated a plantation drive on International Women’s Day by planting a sapling in Sheikhupura. Accompanied by Senior Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb, the chief minister visited the Dargai Gul Forest Park, where they collectively planted saplings to kick off the plantation initiative.

The plantation drive witnessed the active participation of 2000 female students and women who set a commendable record by planting a remarkable 12,000 saplings on Women’s Day. This impressive effort aligns with the authorities’ ambitious target of planting 0.6 million saplings across Punjab on International Women’s Day, demonstrating a commitment to sustainable environmental practices.

The holistic approach adopted by the Punjab Government, encompassing zoological surveys, digital archives, wildlife protection forces, and international markets, reflects a comprehensive strategy aimed at fostering environmental sustainability, wildlife conservation, and responsible resource management.
