Punjab Chief Minister Raises Women's Job Quota

On International Women’s Day, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif made several significant announcements during a ceremony in Lahore. The Chief Minister announced a 5% increase in the job quota for women in the Punjab Public Service Commission (PPSC), raising it from 10% to 15%.

 

Maryam Nawaz also declared the allocation of Rs. 1 billion for the establishment of Day Care Centres at workplaces and the creation of hostels for working women. Additionally, plans were revealed for launching internships for women and providing loans to support them in starting online businesses. In terms of inheritance equality, Maryam Nawaz announced that the Board of Revenue would facilitate the transfer of inheritance to heirs after determining the daughters’ rightful share. No transfer fees would be charged for gifting property to sisters and daughters.

Furthermore, the Chief Minister proposed a new law granting working women a three-day maternity leave. She emphasized the creation of designated areas and schedules for women at gyms and stadiums, dedicated prayer areas, and separate washroom facilities in government institutions.

 

A groundbreaking initiative introduced by Maryam Nawaz is the International Women Safety App “Never Again.” The app aims to provide women across Punjab with a reliable tool for instant access to emergency services and support, enhancing women’s safety in the region.
