The Punjab Safe Cities Authority (PSCA) has issued a public advisory urging citizens to verify e-challan records when purchasing used vehicles in the province.
Buying and selling second-hand cars is a common and cost-effective practice across Pakistan. However, the PSCA cautions that failing to clear outstanding traffic fines during such transactions can lead to serious consequences for the new owner.
Why E-Challan Verification Matters
The PSCA emphasizes the importance of checking for unpaid e-challans before finalizing any used vehicle purchase. Unsettled fines can result in legal trouble and hinder the vehicle’s registration or future sale.
Sellers are also advised to promptly transfer ownership to the buyer’s name to avoid being held liable for any violations committed by the new owner after the sale.
How to Check E-Challan Status
Citizens can easily check outstanding e-challans by visiting the official PSCA e-challan portal and entering the vehicle’s registration number. This allows potential buyers to confirm whether the vehicle has any pending dues.
To streamline fine payments, the Punjab government recommends using the ePay Punjab app—available on Android and iOS—which supports payments through:
- Mobile and internet banking
- ATMs
- Over-the-counter banking
- Mobile wallets and telco agents
Following the PSCA’s advice ensures a smooth buying or selling process and protects both parties from future liabilities.
