The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) recently confiscated 500 kilograms of unauthorized meat, marking the second occurrence of such a large meat seizure by the PFA in the past few days.

According to PFA Director General Raja Jahangir, this latest seizure took place when they received a tip-off regarding the distribution of inedible meat to local food establishments. Subsequently, they intercepted a passenger van near the Ravi Toll Plaza, discovering 12.5 maunds (approximately 500 kilograms) of putrid meat concealed under the seats.

Raja Jahangir further revealed that over the past month, the PFA has initiated 548 legal cases against individuals involved in food adulteration and food business operators (FBOs) for violating the Punjab Pure Food Regulations. Furthermore, the PFA’s legal team has submitted 367 legal notices against these wrongdoers in various courts across Punjab. Over the past five years, local courts have handed down severe penalties to individuals found guilty of jeopardizing public health.

The illegal trade of unfit meat has witnessed a surge in the country, particularly in Punjab, over recent years. Just recently, the Lahore police’s Mujahid Squad thwarted an attempt to distribute 400 kilograms of beef and mutton to wedding halls.
