The Caretaker Government of Punjab is set to reveal its second four-month budget for the fiscal year 2023-24. As per a report in a national daily, the interim administration has drafted a budget exceeding Rs. 2.12 trillion, with Rs. 1.8 trillion designated for non-development expenditures and Rs. 320 billion allocated to maintain ongoing projects.
The non-development budget has been allocated for covering administrative, routine, and operational costs, including government employee salaries.

Simultaneously, the Punjab Planning and Development Board has prepared a Rs. 320 billion budget for 4,900 ongoing development projects, without any provisions for new development schemes. If approved, these funds will become available starting from November 1.
This move is in response to the current budget of Rs. 1.72 trillion, which is set to expire on October 31 (tomorrow). To ensure legal compliance, the Punjab government sought guidance from the law department, which confirmed the precedent of a second budget by a caretaker setup, a confirmation backed by the Supreme Court.
