A severe heatwave is expected to grip parts of Punjab from today, with Multan and Dera Ghazi Khan divisions facing the brunt of the scorching weather. Other major cities including Lahore, Faisalabad, and Sargodha are also forecasted to experience dangerously high temperatures in the coming days.
Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has issued a statewide alert, urging the public to stay indoors during peak heat hours and advising extra care for children, the elderly, and the sick. In her directive, she also called on farmers to protect livestock by ensuring adequate shade and water supply, while encouraging residents to place water containers on rooftops to support bird life during the heat.

In an effort to mitigate the impact of the heatwave, all outdoor activities in both government and private institutions have been suspended until further notice. Schools have been ordered to ensure fan functionality in classrooms and adopt flexible dress codes to help students remain comfortable. Institutions are also required to maintain first aid readiness.
Markets and transportation hubs are being equipped with shaded waiting areas, water coolers, ORS water, and mist fans to assist the public. Rescue 1122 and health services across the affected areas have been placed on high alert to respond to any heat-related emergencies quickly and efficiently.
