The Punjab government has taken a new step to enhance educational inclusion for minority communities, especially Christian students.
Under this policy, non-Muslim students will now have the option to study their own religious subjects instead of being required to take Islamic Studies or general Ethics.
The Punjab Education, Curriculum, Training and Assessment Authority (PECTAA) has approved Christian Religious Education textbooks for use in schools. These books, developed by Educating Youth Publication, will be taught to students from grades 1 to 8 and grades 11 and 12.
In addition, subjects covering Hinduism, Sikhism, Kalasha Taleem, and Buddhism have been approved for grades 1 to 3, while Zoroastrianism will be offered for grades 1 to 5.
This development represents a significant shift from the previous system, introducing religion-specific education tailored to minority groups.
According to PECTAA’s notification, these textbooks will be implemented in both public and private schools across Punjab for Christian and other minority students.
Officials have termed the move a historic step toward protecting and promoting the educational rights of minorities. It is also part of a broader initiative by the Punjab government to encourage inclusivity and ensure students from diverse religious backgrounds can study in line with their beliefs.
