Shah Mahmood Qureshi, Vice Chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), has been transferred from Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi to Kot Lakhpat Jail in Lahore under tight security measures. This move comes ahead of a hearing at Kot Lakhpat Jail, where he will be presented before an anti-terrorism court (ATC) judge regarding incidents that occurred on May 9.
According to jail sources, Qureshi was relocated following the completion of an inquiry by a Joint Investigation Team (JIT) into several terrorism-related cases at Adiala Jail. His legal counsel, Barrister Taimoor Malik, confirmed that Qureshi will appear in court at Kot Lakhpat Jail for today’s hearing.

The court’s decision following this hearing will determine whether Qureshi remains in Lahore or returns to Adiala Jail. This development follows recent legal proceedings involving PTI leaders, including a recent acquittal of PTI founder Imran Khan and others in a case from the Aabpara police station.
Previously, on June 27, a hearing regarding the May 9 incidents involving 500 accused, including Imran Khan and Qureshi, was adjourned to July 15 due to their absence despite being summoned by the Rawalpindi court. Earlier, on June 3, the Islamabad High Court (IHC) had acquitted both Imran Khan and Qureshi in the Cipher case, suspending their 10-year sentences as it heard their appeals.
The legal proceedings stem from speeches delivered by Imran Khan and Qureshi at a public rally in Islamabad on March 27, 2022, which the IHC noted to be of a political nature on March 19.
