PTI Chairman Reacts to DG ISPR’s Press Conference

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali urged pro-democracy forces to intervene and help reduce rising political tensions, expressing disappointment over statements that directly targeted his party and former Prime Minister Imran Khan.

The comments came after a press conference by ISPR Director General Lt Gen Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, during which the Pakistan Army spokesperson accused Khan of promoting an “anti-army” narrative, warning that the situation had escalated beyond politics into a potential “national security threat.” Following the briefing, several PTI leaders shared reactions on social media.

In his response, Gohar Ali emphasized the importance of dialogue, mutual respect, and trust-building. He urged pro-democracy groups to actively participate in calming tensions, stating, “This is the time to acknowledge one another, create space for discussion, and rebuild trust.”

Reaffirming PTI’s loyalty to Pakistan, Gohar stressed that defending the nation remains paramount. He clarified that PTI has never been anti-state and expressed concern over perceptions that political leaders or state institutions pose threats to one another. “Pakistan belongs to all of us, including the army, and PTI has always demonstrated this commitment,” he said.

Gohar also warned that actions by “certain non-stakeholders,” without specifying names, should not be allowed to create friction between PTI and state institutions. He suggested that allowing meetings with Imran Khan and his wife, Bushra Bibi, who remain in detention, could ease tensions, emphasizing that the country cannot afford ongoing chaos.

PTI Secretary General Salman Akram Raja criticized reactionary measures, noting, “A troubled response is not a political strategy.” Meanwhile, Imran Khan’s nominee for parliamentary leader condemned offensive remarks directed at KP Chief Minister Sohail Afridi, describing them as an insult to the Pakhtun nation and tribal communities.

With political tensions escalating, PTI leadership continues to call on all parties to de-escalate rhetoric, urging calm to prevent further instability. They warned that Pakistan’s political landscape cannot sustain prolonged disorder and emphasized the need for dialogue and cooperation to maintain national unity.
