PTI Calls For ECP Chief’s Resignation

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has taken a firm stance by demanding the immediate resignation of Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Sikandar Sultan Raja, citing his failure to oversee fair elections in the country. Barrister Gohar Ali Khan, a prominent PTI leader, expressed this demand during a media interaction, emphasizing that the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) chief had become a controversial figure and should step down from his position.

This call for resignation aligns with the grievances voiced by several political parties, including PTI, regarding alleged rigging in the general elections held on February 8. Barrister Gohar underscored the importance of finalizing election results based on Form 45, issued by the Returning Officer (RO). He contended that the ongoing investigation into election rigging necessitates the resignation of the ECP chief.

Barrister Gohar went on to claim that PTI had initially secured 180 National Seats in the elections, but the results were manipulated to unfairly alter their seat count. This assertion reflects the deep concerns and skepticism surrounding the transparency and integrity of the electoral process.

Additionally, Barrister Gohar demanded security for the outgoing Rawalpindi Commissioner, Liaquat Ali Chatha, and his family. He commended Chatha for being the first person to disclose details about rigging in the polls. Last week, Commissioner Rawalpindi Liaquat Ali Chatha announced his resignation, citing massive rigging in the recently held general elections.

In a statement, Commissioner Chatha openly admitted to his involvement in election rigging within Rawalpindi Division. He disclosed that returning officers under his command manipulated results for at least 13 political candidates in the division. Chatha expressed regret for his role in perpetrating injustice against the people in Rawalpindi Division and implicated all administrative institutions, including the police and the election commission, in facilitating election fraud.

The demands made by PTI and the resignation of Commissioner Chatha highlight the deep-rooted concerns about the transparency and fairness of the electoral process in Pakistan. The call for the CEC’s resignation adds to the ongoing scrutiny of the electoral system and underscores the need for accountability and reform to ensure the integrity of future elections in the country.
