Pakistan Telecommunication Company Ltd (PTCL) announced on Friday that its teams were actively addressing disruptions that had affected users since the previous night. The issue was caused by a fault in one of the subsea internet cables connecting Pakistan, resulting in slower network speeds across the country.
The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) confirmed the fault occurred in the Asia-Africa-Europe-1 (AAE-1) cable, located near Qatar. The AAE-1 cable, which has been operational since 2017, connects multiple countries, including Pakistan and several others across Asia, Europe, and the Middle East. PTCL assured that its teams were working diligently to restore normal network speeds.

Despite the ongoing efforts, users are still experiencing slow browsing speeds, and PTCL has apologized for the inconvenience caused. Pakistan continues to face challenges with slower internet speeds, even though there have been improvements in mobile and fixed broadband speeds.
Concerns over internet service disruptions were also raised in the Senate Standing Committee on Information Technology earlier this week, where members highlighted issues related to internet shutdowns. The PTA chairman clarified that such shutdowns, though common since 2016, have recently been deemed unlawful and await legal opinions from the interior ministry.
