PTCL Warns of Internet Slowdown During Vable Maintenance Work

Internet users in Pakistan may face slow speeds on October 14 due to scheduled maintenance on one of the country’s submarine cables, PTCL announced.

The company said an international cable consortium will repair a faulty repeater starting at 11 a.m. PST, with work expected to continue for up to 18 hours. During this time, users might experience reduced browsing and connection quality. PTCL apologized for the inconvenience and assured efforts to minimize disruption.

Last month, parts of Pakistan also faced internet slowdowns after submarine cables near Jeddah were damaged, affecting SMW4 and IMEWE links. PTCL noted that international teams have begun repair work, while local engineers are providing alternate bandwidth to maintain service stability.

Users had also reported issues with WhatsApp and other Meta apps during peak hours, which PTCL said were being coordinated with Meta’s headquarters. The company reaffirmed that services are being restored and performance will normalize once maintenance is completed.
