PTCL Denies Internet Traffic Disruption Reports Nationwide

Reports indicate damage to the SEA-ME-WE-5 submarine cable, which connects Singapore to Pakistan and Europe, potentially disrupting internet services in Pakistan, as per telecom industry sources.

However, Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL) refutes these claims, affirming that its internet traffic remains unaffected despite the cable damage.

A PTCL spokesperson clarified that the cable break has not impacted PTCL’s network infrastructure, ensuring continued smooth internet services in Pakistan without interruptions.

Some users have reported issues like packet drops and slow browsing since Monday, attributed to the cable break near Indonesia. The SEA-ME-WE-5 cable, experiencing its fifth cut, will require time for repairs, mainly affecting internet services from the east and PTCL’s eastbound traffic.

Despite these challenges, the spokesperson assures that PTCL’s network functions optimally, managing any impact on eastbound internet traffic by rerouting it through alternative channels.
