The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has warned users to be careful when using WhatsApp due to a rise in fake messages. These messages may lead to account hacking or personal data theft.

People have reported getting suspicious texts from local and international numbers pretending to be from WhatsApp. These messages often include the WhatsApp logo and a link, trying to trick users into clicking.

PTA says not to click on these links or reply to such messages. Some of them falsely claim your WhatsApp account will be closed or needs verification.

These links can steal personal information or give hackers access to your account. PTA added that this is part of a larger scam to target phone users across Pakistan.

Users are advised to stay alert and report any strange messages. If a message seems urgent or asks you to click a link, it’s best to ignore and delete it.

PTA also reminded everyone that WhatsApp never asks for personal details or sends unofficial links. This warning comes as online scams and privacy concerns continue to rise in the country.
