PTA blocks 1,500 SIMs in a mobile phone fraud crackdown

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has ramped up its efforts to combat mobile phone fraud, resulting in the blocking of over 1,500 SIM cards associated with fraudulent activities.

According to information obtained by Samaa TV, the PTA has received a substantial number of complaints this year, including:

  • 6,298 fraud calls
  • 4,838 SMS complaints
  • 782 complaints of fraud via WhatsApp
  • 487 complaints of scams using the Benazir Income Support Program’s name
  • 191 instances of fraudulent calls and messages linked to the Bol game show

In addition to blocking these SIM cards, the PTA also took action against mobile devices involved in fraudulent activities by blocking the IMEI numbers of 1,401 devices.

A PTA spokesperson highlighted the authority’s commitment to protecting users from fraudulent activities by implementing strict measures. This crackdown is part of their ongoing efforts to ensure the safety and security of mobile phone users in Pakistan.
