PSL Set for Major Expansion with Two New Teams After 2025 Season
The Pakistan Super League (PSL) is on the brink of its most significant expansion yet, with plans to introduce two new franchises after the 2025 season, increasing the number of participating teams from six to eight.
PSL CEO Confirms Expansion Plans
The development was confirmed by PSL Chief Executive Officer Salman Naseer, who highlighted the league’s vision for sustained growth while maintaining competitive balance.
“By the end of this year, we might get two more teams. There’s always something happening, which re-energizes the concept, the event, and the passion of the fans,” Naseer stated.
From UAE to Pakistan: A Remarkable Journey
The PSL, which initially took place in the UAE due to security concerns, has successfully transitioned into a fully home-based tournament, marking a milestone in Pakistan’s cricket landscape.
“We started at a time when no cricket was happening in Pakistan. The challenge was to bring it back,” Naseer recalled.
Maintaining Quality and Competitive Balance
With expansion on the horizon, PSL management is committed to upholding the league’s high standards.
“The balance between bat and ball is one of the hallmarks of PSL, and with expansion, we need to ensure that quality remains intact,” Naseer added.
