On Tuesday, the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) filed a challenge against the Supreme Court’s July 12 verdict regarding the allocation of reserved seats. This challenge comes a week after the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) submitted its own review petition.
The Supreme Court’s July 12 ruling reversed previous decisions by the Peshawar High Court and the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), declaring that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) is entitled to reserved seats for women and minorities.

The ruling followed appeals by the Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC), which is supported by PTI, challenging the ECP’s decision and the PHC’s subsequent affirmation. The SIC argued that the denial of these seats was unconstitutional and sought to reallocate 77 reserved seats originally designated for other parties within the ruling coalition.
The decision has faced criticism from the ruling coalition. Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz expressed her surprise and questioned the legitimacy of the decision, describing the reinstated individuals as “criminals of the nation.”
