PML-N Withdraws from Azad Kashmir Government Amid Political Tensions

In a major political development, the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has officially announced its separation from the Azad Kashmir government, signaling a significant shift in the region’s political landscape.

Speaking to the media, PML-N Azad Kashmir President Shah Ghulam Qadir stated that while the party respects democratic processes, it will not be part of any new coalition government. His remarks came amid growing political uncertainty following reports of a possible no-confidence motion in the Azad Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly.

Qadir clarified that if the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) decides to move forward with a no-confidence motion, it is within their democratic right to do so. However, he emphasized that the PML-N has chosen to step aside from the current political setup and will not participate in forming a new administration.

“The PML-N believes in democratic principles and stability,” Qadir said. “We will play our role as a constructive opposition rather than being part of political maneuvering.”

Political analysts suggest that this decision could lead to a realignment of alliances in Azad Kashmir’s political sphere, particularly if the PPP successfully secures the required support for its motion. The move also reflects the PML-N’s attempt to distance itself from internal power struggles and focus on organizational restructuring ahead of upcoming political challenges.

Meanwhile, party sources confirmed that consultations with senior leadership in Islamabad preceded the announcement. The decision was reportedly taken to maintain consistency with the central party’s policy of transparency and institutional stability.

The development comes at a time when political and administrative reforms are being emphasized across Punjab and Azad Kashmir. In a related effort toward public engagement and accountability, the Lahore DIG Investigation recently held an open court to address citizen grievances, underscoring the government’s ongoing commitment to transparency and service-oriented governance

Observers believe the PML-N’s exit from the Azad Kashmir government will intensify political competition and may open space for new alliances. However, party leaders insist their focus remains on governance principles rather than power politics
