PMDC Announces New Rules for Pakistani Students Studying Abroad

The PMDC has announced new rules for Pakistani students who wish to pursue medical education abroad. These requirements aim to ensure high standards and proper registration for future doctors.

According to the council, students must secure at least 60% marks in FSc Pre-Medical or an equivalent qualification. They also need to score 50% or more in the MDCAT, the Medical and Dental College Admission Test conducted in Pakistan.

The PMDC has made it mandatory for students enrolling in foreign medical institutions to complete an online registration process. This registration is necessary for graduates to appear in the National Registration Examination (NRE) in Pakistan. Passing the NRE is required to practice as a licensed doctor in the country.

The council clarified that these rules are part of the PMDC Act 2022. Compliance is needed to obtain temporary registration and eligibility for the NRE. Students who fail to complete registration will not be allowed to sit for the exam.

In addition, the PMDC stressed that foreign medical graduates must verify that their institutions are recognized by the relevant regulatory authority abroad and approved by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG). This ensures that the education meets international standards.

Students have been advised to check the accreditation status of foreign institutions on the ECFMG website before applying. The council also recommends visiting the PMDC official website for guidance and updates.

These new requirements are intended to maintain the quality of medical education for Pakistani students studying abroad. They also ensure that graduates meet national standards and are prepared for professional practice in Pakistan.
