PMD Predicts Heavy Rainfall Nationwide Starting August 4

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a weather alert warning of heavy monsoon rains across the country from August 4 to 7, advising the public and tourists to remain cautious during this period.

Rainfall is expected in Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, Islamabad, upper Punjab, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, with the most intense showers likely on August 6 and 7 in areas including Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Lahore, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Narowal, Murree, and Galiyat. The PMD warned of potential landslides in Murree, Galiyat, and Azad Kashmir, urging tourists to stay alert.

Rain and windstorms are also predicted in north-eastern Balochistan on August 6, with warnings of urban flooding in low-lying areas. Authorities have been instructed to stay on high alert and take necessary precautions in advance.

The PMD has advised travelers to avoid unnecessary movement during heavy rain spells and to follow regular weather updates.

Meanwhile, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) reported that since June 26, 299 people, including 140 children, have died due to flash floods and heavy rains across the country, with 715 others injured. Over 1,600 houses have been damaged, 428 livestock lost, and 2,880 individuals rescued in 223 emergency operations.

Further rainfall is also expected in Punjab from August 5 as another monsoon spell approaches.
