The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a heatwave advisory, predicting intense heat across Pakistan’s plains from June 18 to 20.

The alert warns of possible health and economic impacts, urging the public to take preventive steps. Vulnerable groups include children, the elderly, outdoor laborers, displaced families, and those living in poor urban areas. The advisory highlights risks of dehydration, heatstroke, and worsening of heart and lung diseases. Those without proper shelter or electricity face higher exposure risks.

Economically, the extreme heat may lead to higher electricity consumption, crop damage due to evaporation, and increased livestock deaths in arid areas.

To stay safe, the PMD recommends avoiding outdoor activities from 11 AM to 4 PM, drinking plenty of water, and wearing light cotton clothes with head coverings. Citizens are also advised to seek shade, rest often, and stay updated through official warnings, especially about potential power disruptions.
