PM To Join Virtual Signing Of Financing Agreement For Circular Debt Cut

The Prime Minister (PM) of Pakistan, Shehbaz Sharif, will virtually attend the signing of a financing facility agreement to reduce circular debt in the power sector. The event is organized by the Central Power Purchasing Agency (Guarantee) Limited (CPPA-G), representing the Ministry of Energy (Power Division).

The ceremony is scheduled for Wednesday, September 24, 2025, at the Prime Minister’s Office in Islamabad. CPPA-G has invited banks and power sector companies to participate in the event. The agency described the agreement as a significant milestone for the energy sector.

In a communication to chief executives, CPPA-G emphasized the importance of the agreement in strengthening the financial stability of the power sector. It also noted that the participation of key stakeholders is essential for the signing ceremony.

Circular debt has long been a challenge in Pakistan, affecting electricity supply and the financial health of energy companies. This financing facility aims to address these issues and support ongoing reforms in the power sector.

CPPA-G stated that the final schedule of the ceremony will be confirmed after coordination with the PM’s Office. The agency also highlighted the collaborative effort required from banks, power companies, and government entities to make this agreement effective.

The PM’s virtual attendance underscores the government’s commitment to resolving circular debt. Officials say the agreement will help improve energy efficiency, reduce financial losses, and ensure smoother electricity supply to consumers.

Experts in the energy sector have welcomed the initiative, calling it a crucial step toward long-term financial stability. The agreement is expected to bring relief to the power sector and contribute to sustainable energy management in the country.

With the PM participating virtually, stakeholders hope this milestone will set a precedent for future collaborations between the government and the private sector.
