Gilgit, August 4 – PM Shehbaz arrived in Gilgit on Monday for a one-day visit to assess the impact of recent floods. The visit comes as Gilgit-Baltistan struggles to recover from heavy rains and flash floods that caused significant damage across the region.
Upon arrival at Gilgit Airport, PM Shehbaz was received by Governor Syed Mehdi Shah and Chief Minister Gulbar Khan. He was accompanied by a high-level federal delegation, including several key ministers and officials.
The visiting team included Minister for Communications Abdul Aleem Khan, Minister for Information Attaullah Tarar, and Minister for Climate Change Dr. Musaddiq Malik. Also present were Minister for Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan Affairs Engineer Amir Muqam, Advisor Rana Sanaullah, and Prime Minister’s Coordinator Shabbir Usmani.
During his visit, PM Shehbaz met with families affected by the floods. He offered condolences and assured them of continued federal support. The Prime Minister also distributed relief funds to victims as part of the government’s emergency aid package.
Officials briefed the Prime Minister on the current situation. They shared updates on damage to roads, bridges, homes, and public infrastructure. The briefing also included the humanitarian response so far and ongoing rescue and relief operations.
PM Shehbaz emphasized the importance of restoring communication lines and rebuilding damaged infrastructure without delay. He urged federal and regional authorities to work together and ensure that all affected families receive timely assistance.
This visit highlights the federal government’s commitment to supporting the people of Gilgit-Baltistan during this crisis. Relief operations will continue as more aid and resources are sent to the region.
Heavy monsoon rains have caused landslides, road blockages, and displacement in many parts of the region. Authorities are on high alert and continue to monitor the situation closely.
