PM Shehbaz King Charles III coronation

The Foreign Office (FO) announced on Friday that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will travel to the United Kingdom to attend King Charles III’s coronation the following week.

After Queen Elizabeth died last September, Charles, then 74, ascended to the throne. The coronation of a British monarch takes place a few months later, after a period of widespread mourning and careful planning, according to royal custom.

King Charles III will be crowned on May 6 at Westminster Abbey in London. Heads of state from all over the world are expected to attend, including those from Ireland, France, Spain, Belgium, Japan, Hungary, and Australia.

According to an earlier statement from Buckingham Palace, Prince Harry will attend the coronation without his wife Meghan. The couple’s attendance had been called into question for weeks prior to the announcement, as they will step down from royal duties in early 2020.

According to FO spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch in a news briefing today, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will travel to the United Kingdom to witness His Majesty King Charles III and Queen Consort Camilla’s coronation on May 6, 2023.

She went on to say that the premier will attend a gathering of Commonwealth leaders on May 5.

She added that he planned to hold bilateral meetings with leaders attending the celebrations.

According to Baloch, relations between Pakistan and the UK have a rich history that is firmly rooted in the vibrant Pakistani-British community.

“We see the British monarch and the royal family as friends of Pakistan and its people, and look forward to further strengthening ties between Pakistan and the United Kingdom,” she continued.

The Prime Minister had a meeting with King Charles III in London the previous year and expressed his sympathies on Queen Elizabeth’s demise.
