Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has expressed his willingness to resume dialogue with Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), suggesting the formation of a parliamentary committee to address the ongoing political and electoral concerns. In a recent federal cabinet meeting, PM Sharif revisited the talks initiated with PTI after the latter proposed forming a committee to resolve issues. He noted that PTI had submitted written demands through the Speaker, which were to be addressed by the government committee in writing, but the scheduled meeting on January 28 was unexpectedly canceled by PTI.
The Prime Minister emphasized the importance of responding to written demands formally, drawing comparisons to the 2018 elections when then-Prime Minister Imran Khan initiated a parliamentary committee to investigate election-related matters after the opposition entered Parliament with black armbands. PM Sharif urged PTI to renew the dialogue and work together to form a committee that could investigate both the 2018 and 2024 elections, ensuring transparency and uncovering the facts.

In his address, PM Sharif also paid tribute to the sacrifices made by Pakistani soldiers who were martyred in the fight against terrorism in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He stressed that the nation owed its fallen heroes a debt of gratitude. The Prime Minister also welcomed the State Bank’s recent decision to reduce the policy rate by 1%, although he expressed that a larger reduction would have been more beneficial for businesses and industries. He remained optimistic about Pakistan’s economic growth despite the challenges.
Further addressing critical national issues, PM Sharif condemned the ongoing human trafficking problem, expressing grave concern over the hundreds of Pakistani lives lost due to illegal smuggling operations. He assured that the government was determined to eradicate human trafficking and hold the perpetrators accountable for their actions.
