Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif Meets Azerbaijan President Ilham Aliyev, Reaffirms Strong Bilateral Ties

Lachin, Azerbaijan – Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met with President Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan on Tuesday during an official visit, expressing gratitude for Azerbaijan’s steadfast support for Pakistan amid India’s provocative actions.

Accompanied by Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, Field Marshal Gen Syed Asim Munir, Federal Information Minister Attaullah Tarar, and Special Assistant Tariq Fatemi, PM Shehbaz extended congratulations to President Aliyev and the Azerbaijani people on the occasion of their Independence Day, underscoring the enduring bond between the two nations.

The leaders reviewed the full scope of bilateral relations, expressing satisfaction over cooperation in political, economic, defence, and cultural sectors. Both sides agreed to strengthen their partnership by promoting increased investments across diverse areas.

“The two nations have always stood by each other,” Prime Minister Shehbaz remarked.

They also agreed to facilitate delegation exchanges aimed at accelerating progress on Azerbaijani investment projects in Pakistan. Plans for upcoming high-level official meetings were confirmed.

PM Shehbaz noted that holding the meeting in Lachin symbolizes Azerbaijan’s resilience and recovery — a sentiment shared deeply by both countries.

The leaders emphasized the importance of coordinated efforts to promote regional stability, mutual prosperity, and a principled approach on key global issues.

Concluding the meeting, President Aliyev and PM Shehbaz reaffirmed their commitment to deepening Pakistan-Azerbaijan relations and advancing their shared objectives at bilateral and regional levels.
