Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif praised the Pakistan Kidney and Liver Institute (PKLI) for performing 1,000 successful liver transplants in Pakistan. He said the achievement reflects the country’s growing strength in advanced healthcare and the dedication of medical professionals who have made complex surgeries accessible to the public.
Highlighting the significance of this milestone, the Prime Minister called it a proud moment for both the nation and the healthcare sector. He said liver transplant in Pakistan was once only possible abroad, but now world-class facilities and expertise are available at home, offering hope to patients who cannot afford expensive treatment overseas.
Shehbaz Sharif also appreciated the efforts of doctors, surgeons, and supporting staff who worked tirelessly to make liver transplants in Pakistan more efficient and safer. He said the government will continue to strengthen health institutions like PKLI and expand advanced care facilities across provinces.
In line with the ongoing healthcare focus, Punjab’s recent health initiatives are also aimed at making specialized medical services accessible to vulnerable groups. For example, a new Punjab health drive for special kids was launched to ensure early diagnosis and free treatment for children with developmental challenges, further emphasizing the province’s commitment to inclusive health programs.
Experts say PKLI’s success could encourage more hospitals to develop transplant departments and training centers, ensuring liver transplant in Pakistan becomes more affordable and widespread. The milestone stands as a symbol of medical progress and government support toward a healthier, self-reliant Pakistan.
