PM Asks IMF to Allow Power Bill Relief in Flood-it Areas

ISLAMABAD – Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed the Finance Ministry to seek the International Monetary Fund’s (IMF) approval for electricity bill relief in flood-affected areas.

Reports state that the premier instructed officials to negotiate for a one-month waiver on power bills for residents in disaster-hit regions, aiming to provide urgent support to those struggling with the aftermath of floods.

The exemption will be applied in all affected areas, covering both rural and urban regions.

Earlier, PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto also called on the government to waive electricity bills for farmers impacted by the floods. Meanwhile, the prime minister has declared an agricultural and climate emergency to address the widespread destruction caused by the natural disaster.
