In a positive move for frequent flyers, Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) is set to reduce international ticket prices following the waiver of Federal Excise Duty (FED).
Reports indicate that the International Monetary Fund (IMF) granted this relief, which is expected to lower ticket prices by up to Rs3.5 lakh for flights to the U.S. Additionally, travelers to Africa and the Middle East could save around Rs1 lakh, while flights to Australia, New Zealand, and Europe will also benefit from significant discounts.

This decision follows the recent budget’s imposition of additional FED, with the IMF also waiving an 18% sales tax on new aircraft and agreeing to transfer Rs46 billion in negative equity to a holding company to reduce operational costs.
The government is also considering privatizing PIA through a potential government-to-government deal with Qatar or Abu Dhabi, building on previous privatization attempts.
