Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) is grappling with a severe operational crisis, as a significant portion of its fleet remains grounded due to a shortage of spare parts.
According to sources, only 19 of the airline’s 34 aircraft—including Airbus, Boeing, and ATR models—are currently in service, while the rest are non-operational.

The crisis has been exacerbated by PIA’s failure to procure essential spare parts, including aircraft engines, in a timely manner. In a desperate bid to keep some planes flying, the airline has reportedly resorted to cannibalizing parts from grounded aircraft, insiders reveal.
Despite these challenges, PIA continues to pay millions of dollars in lease payments to international leasing companies for aircraft that remain out of service. The prolonged grounding of multiple planes has further deepened the airline’s already precarious financial situation.
