Shehbaz Sharif Announces Education Crisis Intervention

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has declared a national education emergency to advance learning opportunities in the country.

In his address at a recent education conference, Prime Minister Sharif stressed the indispensable role of education in national progress, emphasizing the resilience and determination of the Pakistani populace in overcoming challenges. He underscored the need for collective accountability in the education sector, expressing confidence in Pakistan’s potential for excellence across all spheres.

Highlighting the concerning statistic of 26 million out-of-school children nationwide, Prime Minister Sharif identified their enrollment as a critical priority. Despite financial constraints, he remained optimistic about surmounting obstacles through unwavering determination.

Acknowledging past achievements in Punjab’s education sector, particularly in providing quality education through Danish schools, Prime Minister Sharif expressed optimism about addressing the challenges of educating children outside the formal schooling system.He personally committed to overseeing nationwide education efforts and ensuring the enrollment of all out-of-school children. To this end, he announced a nationwide education emergency and pledged to collaborate with provincial chief ministers.

Federal Minister for Education and Vocational Training Dr. Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui echoed the urgency of addressing neglected education aspects, citing the staggering figure of 26 million out-of-school children.

UNICEF representatives emphasized the Prime Minister’s focus on education and called for increased investment in the sector, citing Pakistan’s low GDP allocation for education.

The British High Commissioner to Pakistan, Jane Marriott, stressed the shared responsibility in providing education to out-of-school children and pledged Britain’s support in Pakistan’s education sector development and global education goals attainment by 2030.
