The Punjab Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued a flood alert for the eastern rivers of Punjab. This warning comes as water levels continue to rise, increasing the risk of flooding starting from July 21.
PDMA has placed commissioners and deputy commissioners of several key districts on high alert. These districts include Lahore, Sahiwal, Multan, Gujranwala, Bahawalpur, Faisalabad, Jhelum, Rawalpindi, Attock, Gujrat, Sargodha, Khushab, and Jhang. The authorities in these areas have been instructed to stay prepared for any emergency.
Rescue 1122, the emergency response service, has been directed by PDMA to complete all necessary preparations. The local government, irrigation departments, and other relevant agencies have also been notified and asked to remain vigilant.
PDMA Director General Irfan Kathia emphasized the importance of readiness. He instructed district administrations to follow the Punjab Chief Minister’s directives fully. Emergency control rooms must stay operational, and disaster response teams, including Rescue 1122, should remain on high alert with adequate stocks of fuel.
The PDMA has also asked officials to keep the public informed about the flood situation. Evacuations of homes and livestock from vulnerable riverbed areas have been prioritized. These steps aim to minimize damage and protect lives and property.
This flood alert by PDMA highlights the importance of early warning and preparedness in reducing the impact of natural disasters. Authorities continue to monitor water levels closely and coordinate efforts to handle any potential floods in eastern Punjab.
By staying alert and ready, PDMA aims to ensure the safety of residents in flood-prone areas.
