Parents Urge Holiday Extension as Punjab Schools Set to Reopen Amidst Harsh Winter Conditions
Punjab schools are scheduled to resume on January 10 after a month-long winter break. Despite this, parents are calling for an extension due to the ongoing severe cold wave and fog affecting various cities in the province.
Caretaker Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi had earlier announced no plans for further holiday extensions, emphasizing the reopening of schools. However, parents are expressing concerns about the worsening health of children in the harsh weather conditions, citing increased sickness and a potential rise in pneumonia cases.
In response, the Chief Minister has called a meeting with education officials to discuss recommendations. Proposed solutions include extending primary school holidays until January 15, adjusting school timings to 9 am to 2 pm, and providing additional holidays for students up to the middle school level while organizing special sessions for ninth and tenth-grade students to prepare for exams.
The final decision on these recommendations is expected after thorough consideration.
