Pakistani Medical Students Abroad Required to Register with PMDC

The federal government has introduced a new registration requirement for Pakistani medical students intending to pursue MBBS or BDS degrees abroad. According to the directive, students must now register with the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) before enrolling in foreign institutions.

This registration process will be conducted through the PMDC’s official website and is now mandatory for students planning to study medicine outside Pakistan. The move aims to ensure that students are admitted only to accredited medical colleges abroad, providing them with necessary oversight regarding their safety and education.

The decision follows incidents of violence reported against Pakistani students in Kyrgyzstan in 2024, highlighting the need for stronger protections for students studying abroad. By requiring registration, the government aims to bolster safety measures and improve the quality of education for Pakistani students in foreign institutions.

Currently, thousands of Pakistani medical students are enrolled in universities across countries like China, Cuba, and various regions in Central Asia. This new policy is part of the government’s broader efforts to address the challenges these students face and to ensure their academic success and personal well-being while abroad.
