The Pakistani government is anticipated to announce a reduction in electricity charges for May 2024, in response to the severe inflation affecting its citizens who are already facing high costs for essential items.
Following a previous discount in April, it is expected that there will be further relief for electricity consumers. The Ministry of Power Division has announced that a proposal has been made to NEPRA to lower the fuel cost adjustment from Rs4.92 to Rs2.94 per unit for the month of May. This adjustment would lead to a significant decrease in electricity bills by Rs4.12 per unit compared to March.

Awais Ahmad Khan Leghari, the Minister for Power, highlighted the government’s commitment to ensuring that the benefits of decreased fuel prices are extended to consumers. He stressed the importance of easing the financial strain on the public during these times of high inflation.
Electricity prices in Pakistan have seen varying changes, with some recent reductions in tariffs; however, the general pattern shows an upward trend. This continuous increase poses a significant challenge for consumers, who are already enduring the effects of record-high inflation rates. This scenario adds to the economic pressures faced by households across the nation.
