The statement, delivered by Pakistan’s representative, warned that anti-Muslim sentiment in India has reached disturbing levels, fueled by political rhetoric and divisive ideologies.
The envoy emphasized that Islamophobia is not confined to one nation but has become a global challenge threatening peace and social cohesion. During the session, Pakistan also referred to the UN resolution adopted in March 2024 that recognized March 15 as the International Day to Combat Islamophobia, a milestone the country had strongly supported. Reiterating its stance, Pakistan stressed that combating Islamophobia in India and elsewhere is crucial for safeguarding pluralism and coexistence. The envoy urged the UN to ensure accountability for hate crimes and to encourage governments to take preventive measures rather than remain silent spectators.
Islamophobia, Pakistan warned, is not just about verbal attacks or social media campaigns; it has tangible consequences for millions of Muslims who face social exclusion and insecurity in their daily lives. The representative concluded that the fight against Islamophobia must remain at the heart of the UN’s mission to preserve global peace and justice.
