Pakistan Team Departs to US for T20 World Cup

On Friday, the Pakistan cricket team departed for the US to participate in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 after completing their tours of England and Ireland.

Pakistan won the T20I series against Ireland but lost the series against England 2-0, with two of the four matches abandoned due to rain.

Led by Babar Azam, the team will arrive in Dallas to play their opening Group A match against the US on June 6.

The Pakistan Cricket Board recently announced its 15-player squad for the event, scheduled in the USA and Caribbean from June 1-29.

The squad includes: Babar Azam (captain), Abrar Ahmed, Azam Khan, Fakhar Zaman, Haris Rauf, Iftikhar Ahmed, Imad Wasim, Mohammad Abbas Afridi, Mohammad Amir, Mohammad Rizwan, Naseem Shah, Saim Ayub, Shadab Khan, Shaheen Shah Afridi, Usman Khan.

Abrar Ahmed, Azam Khan, Mohammad Abbas Afridi, Saim Ayub, and Usman Khan are debuting in their first T20 World Cup. Mohammad Amir and Imad Wasim last played in the 2016 and 2021 tournaments, respectively. The remaining eight players participated in the 2022 event in Australia.

Pakistan has an impressive record in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup since its inception in 2007. They won the 2009 event under Younis Khan and reached the finals twice under Shoaib Malik (2007) and Babar Azam (2022). Additionally, they made it to the semifinals in 2010, 2012, and 2021.
