Pakistan Drop to Fifth Place in ICC ODI Rankings

The International Cricket Council (ICC) released its updated One Day International (ODI) rankings on Monday, with notable shifts in team standings. Pakistan, previously in fourth place, has slipped one position to fifth with 3,465 points. This change came as Sri Lanka climbed to fourth place, securing 4,009 points and overtaking Pakistan in the table.

The latest rankings also saw movement among the lower-tier teams. The West Indies advanced one spot to ninth place, while Bangladesh fell one position to tenth. These changes reflect the teams’ recent performances in international fixtures and highlight the ongoing competition for higher rankings ahead of upcoming tournaments.

At the top of the ODI rankings, India continues to dominate with 4,471 points, maintaining a comfortable lead over second-placed New Zealand, who hold 4,160 points. Australia remains in third position with 3,473 points, narrowly ahead of Pakistan. South Africa is placed sixth, closely followed by Afghanistan in seventh.

The updated rankings underline the highly competitive nature of international cricket, where even small shifts in match outcomes can significantly impact team standings. For Pakistan, the drop to fifth place serves as a reminder of the need for consistent performances in future series to reclaim a higher spot, particularly with the ICC Champions Trophy and other major tournaments on the horizon.

Meanwhile, Sri Lanka’s rise to fourth reflects their steady improvement, adding momentum to their campaign. With upcoming ODI series likely to influence rankings further, teams will be aiming to strengthen their positions before the next ICC update.
