Pakistan on Thursday strongly denounced Israel’s interception of the Global Sumud Flotilla, a civilian convoy of over 40 vessels carrying around 500 international activists, including Pakistani politician Mushtaq Ahmed, attempting to deliver humanitarian aid to Gaza.
In a statement, the Foreign Office said the detention of activists was a blatant violation of international and humanitarian law, putting civilian lives at risk. It added that Israel’s action reflected its ongoing aggression and illegal blockade of Gaza, which has inflicted severe suffering on over two million Palestinians. Blocking humanitarian aid, it stressed, breaches Israel’s obligations as an occupying power under the Fourth Geneva Convention.
Reiterating its stance, Pakistan called for an immediate and unconditional ceasefire across occupied Palestinian territories, an end to Gaza’s blockade, unrestricted humanitarian access, the release of detained activists, and accountability for Israel’s violations.
The statement reaffirmed Pakistan’s firm support for the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination and the establishment of an independent, sovereign state of Palestine within pre-1967 borders, with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital.
