A new polio case has been confirmed in Tank, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where a 20-month-old girl tested positive, raising the provincial tally to 16 and the national count to 24 in 2025.
Health officials urged parents to fully cooperate with vaccination teams as a nationwide anti-polio campaign is underway, aiming to immunize over 28 million children across 99 districts with the help of 240,000 frontline workers.
According to the National Emergency Operations Centre (NEOC), children are being vaccinated in Punjab, Sindh, Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Islamabad, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan. However, the drive faced delays in nine flood-hit districts of Punjab, while parts of southern KP will begin vaccinations from September 15.
Authorities stressed that despite logistical challenges, Pakistan is determined to eliminate polio, urging parents to ensure their children receive timely drops to protect them from permanent disability.
